During the 1960s and 1970s there was a war against the Portuguese authorities in Mozambique by
the Marxist organisation Frelimo, seeking independence, which was achieved in 1975. Cuban forces
went to Mozambique to train the Frelimo fighters and were still there for many years after 1975,
involved in fighting between different factions, and then incursions into neighbouring countries. This
cover, a Cuban Sc envelope, is from a soldier in the Ensenanza Superior Brigade showing the sender's
address as PO Box 4027 in Havana. It has a Havana backstamp of Sth September 1979.
