From 1951 to 1993, during the "Cold War", Canada deployed troops to serve with NATO Forces in
Western Europe. The cover above, from Canadian Field Post Office (CFPO) No. 43, at Lahr, West
Germany, was mailed on Sth January 1976. It arrived on 8th January (postmarked on reverse) at the
destination civil post office in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada- inside 3 days! The Trans-Atlantic
airmail rate was 8 cents for military mail transported by Canadian Forces airlift. The equivalent
civilian airmail rate by commercial air carrier was 15 cents. Mail registration was SOc for both cases.
