Despite the chaos of the Republican Revolution in China that deposed the 12 year old Emperor only a
few months before, the Austro Hungarian Lloyd Shipping Line opened a new express service to
Shanghai. This postcard shows their steamer Africa and was sent from Shanghai on 12th March 1912,
to a medical doctor at the k.u.k. Navy Hospital in Pola, by way of the Trans-Siberian Railway, 'via
Siberia'. The text under the flags of the Austro Hungarian Lloyd line says 'This steamer on 10/3/12 is
for the first time in Shanghai where we had a big party on board'.
