A Mellah was a walled Jewish Quarter of a city in Morocco. It was initially developed to protect the
Jews from attacks by Arabs in the city. The postcard shown is from the French foreign post office in
the Tetouan Mellah. The opening date is not known but is surmised to be 1907. To date this is the
only known cover or postcard known used from this post office. The cancel shown is time coded
14.30 hours. Of the few cancels seen on piece or loose stamps, the time code seems to have been
done away with and replaced by an * somewhere between 1908 and 1913.
