down as President of RPSL and became first Patron, requesting that Lord Crawford take over.

Late in 1909, the Commissioner of the Turks & Caicos Islands requested a design for a farthing stamp,
to pay the local "drop letter" rate, with a Turk's Head Cactus plant in the centre. The drawing above
was provided by the Director of Kew Gardens from which De La Rue produced their design essay on
9th February 1910, which was approved on 30th March 1910. The first of these stamps - in a rosy-
mauve colour - were issued in July of the same year.
