In 1911: Ernest Rutherford discovers the structure of the atom; Amundsen is first to reach
the South Pole; Chinese Republic proclaimed; electric ignition system for cars is invented.
At the RPSL: Patron King George V donated two original copper plates for the One Penny
and Two Penny 'Post Paid' Mauritius stamps and confers M .V.O.s on Castle and Tilleard.
RPSL President was Lord Crawford. Membership stood at 286.

On 21st December 1911, Robert Blake Yardley submitted 5 Turkish Postage Due labels to the RPSL
Expert Committee for their opinion. The Committee decided to consult an expert in Turkish philately,
Adolf Passer in Vienna, and they sent him this Registered Letter on 22nd December 1911. The 2d
Registration Fee and ld postage have been uprated by the addition of a lllid stamp. The envelope
has a strike of the cachet of The Royal Philatelic Society London, 4 Southampton Row, Holborn. Adolf
Passer decided that the items were proofs or reprints, and they were returned on 19th January 1912.
