By August 1908, Cayman had run out of Yid stamps so the use of farthing stamps, intended solely for
internal use, was allowed for foreign mail. Consequently by early October the farthing stamps were
also exhausted and the Postmaster, William Graham Mccausland, resorted to a provisional
manuscript endorsement, which he initialled and then handstamped. These covers are known used
between 4th and 27th October 1908. Five sub-types exist, all of which are scarce. This locally-used
example is endorsed in red ink and cancelled at George Town on 14th October 1908.
