Apollo 13 (AS-508) We've Had A Problem
The solution was a jury-rigged device consisting of plastic hoses, the cover from a mission folder and
some electrical tape, inelegant maybe, life saving definitely.
When the time came for Swigert to begin the delicate operation of powering up the CM' s systems ready
for re-entry, he was concerned that the electrical components might not function, as they were sodden
with condensation. Ironically it was the modifications made to the wiring following the Apollo 1 fire that
probably saved the crew of Apollo 13.

APRIL 13th , 1970 - Apollo 13 was in serious trouble today when an explosion in the service
module cut-off/power in 2 of the 3 electricity-generating cells. The
moon mission cancelled the Astronauts continued toward the moon.
APRIL 14th, 1970 - The crisis came tonight as the Apollo crew rode the crippled commandship
"Odyssey" around the backside of the moon. The engine of the lunar lander

APRIL 17th, 1970 - The troubled-plagued space voyage of Apollo 13 ended today with a safe pin
point landing in the South Pacific after a last minute course correction to
avoid overheating on re-entry ~ Within minutes of the 1: 04. 40 splashdown,
heiicopters from the recovery carrier USS Iwo Jima were overhead.
The above card is the original picture of the crew which of course included Tom Mattingly who was re-
placed by Jack Swigert (picture added) at the last moment because Mattingly contacted German Measles.
