~-----------1 The Apollo Story 1------------
Apollo 14 (AS-509) A Very Tough Place
The astronauts set to work on the first of two EV As, setting up the scientific equipment and television
camera, hammering the flag into the ground and gathering samples. An innovation that allowed an in-
crease in the range of lunar surface exploration was the provision of a collapsible, two-wheeled cart, the
Modular Equipment Transporter (MET), which looked like a golf cart. It was designed to carry tools,
cameras, a portable magnetometer, and lunar samples.

The MET and a 'Buddy System'
To help the astronauts
carry equipment on the
moon, they have a MET or
Modularized Equipment
Transporter. Through their
emergency "buddy system"
one man can support the
other when his cooling
system fails.
