* 8 6 0 1 NEWS [March 15-18, 1686] {Julian Calendar: March 15-18, 1685}
These are to give Notice, That there goes a Post every Monday Night (besides the General Post-Nights) from the
General Post-Office in London, to Lewis in Sussex, by the way of Godstone, East-Grinstead, &c.
* 8 6 0 2 NEWS (Whitehall, April 14, 1686)
Whereas the 12th Instant, about Ten at Night, a Robbery was committed near I/ford, upon Two of His Majesties Mails
coming from Holland, by Two Persons on Horse back; The One on a Bay Horse with a white Foot, and the Other on a
Grey, One of the Men having on a Black Cap, from which Mails they took in Foreign Gold, Coyned and Uncoyned, -
Upwards of Five Thousand Pounds Sterling, belonging to several Merchants, upon whose Application, His Majesty has been
Graciously pleased hereby to promise His Free Pardon to any Person concerned, or privy to the said Robbery, That shall
forthwith come in, and declare the same to Philip Frowde Esq; Governor of His Majesties General Post-Office in Lombard-
street, London, or to any of His Majesties Justices of the Peace, so as the aforesaid Gold may be recovered. And Notice is
hereby given, That the Merchants concerned therein, have given Security to the said Mr. Frowde, immediately to pay Five
Hundred Pounds Sterling to any Person or Persons that shall discover the said Robbery, so as the said Gold be recovered;
Or if only Part thereof, then He or They shall have One Hundred Pounds Sterling immediately paid for every Thousand
Pounds so recovered of the said Gold; And if any Person or Persons concerned in the said Robbery, make the Discovery so
as the Gold may be recovered, They shall have the same Reward accordingly.
* 8 6 0 3 NEWS (Whitehall, April 18, 1686)
Whereas several Persons that were in, and Accessory to the Late Robbery committed upon the Holland Mails, have
been Apprehended and Committed to Newgate (and some of the Gold recovered) by whose Confessions it appears, that
John Smith, and Richard A/borough, were principal Actors in the said Robbery, and had for their Share about Five and
Twenty Hundred Pounds Sterling, in Foreign Gold, Coyned and Uncoyned; These are to give Notice, That if any Person or
Persons can Apprehend Them, or Either of Them, He or They shall have Twenty Pounds for Each, with a further Reward
at the Rate of £10 per Cent. for the said Gold that shall be recovered from them: Or if any Person or Persons can discover
the said Gold, though without Apprehending of them, shall have the same Reward of £10 per Cent. upon Notice given -
thereof to Philip Frowde Esq; Governor of His Majesties General Post-Office in Lombard-street, London.
John Smith is a middle sized Man, of about Forty years of age, full and well set, a large plump round Face, fresh
coloured, and a very brown complexion, and went on Saturday last about seven in the morning with his Wife, from his
Lodgings in Kingstreet, Westminster.
Richard A/borough is a middle sized Man, and well set, thin face, and a very gray eye, went on Friday from
Bloomsbury, mounted on a grey Gelding.

These are to give Notice, That if any Person or Persons can apprehend John Smith, who was a Principal in the late
Robbery of the Holland Mails, Richard A/borough being taken since our last, shall have Twenty Pounds, with a further
Reward at the Rate of 10 per Cent. for what Gold shall be recovered from him. Or if any Person or Persons can discover
the said Gold, though without Apprehending of him, shall have the same Reward of £10 per Cent. upon Notice given
thereof to Philip Frowde Esq; Governor of His Majesties General Post-Office in Lombard-street, London.
