VIDEO UNKED CODING SYSTEM

In an experiment to eliminate the noisy environment in which the coding desk operators had to

work a trial video link (Systeme d'Indexation par Vldio-Codage) was installed at Arcueil. The

operators processed dummy mail presented to them on a monitor in a room away from the
printer and sorting equipment. The trials lasted from 21 January to 8 April 1974.

During February and early March 1974 samples of real mail were occasionally processed using

the video link. Such mail can be identified by the presence of two indexations, firstly in the La

Source 1 language as part of the S.I.V.I.C. trial and then in the Arcueil 1 language enabling it to

be returned for processing with normal mail.
