Parti / Gone Away

                                                      28 March 1892 - London to Freetown

This cover was correctly prepaid 2½d for a half-ounce letter between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone
at this time. The post office in Freetown could not locate the addressee, and marked the cover with the scarce
boxed ‘Parti. / Gone Away.’ handstamp.
The stamps were cancelled in London by a Hoster machine mark. There are Liverpool packet (28 March
1892) and Freetown (20 April 1892) backstamps.
