In July 1958 the second class air mail rate to the UK was 6d per half-ounce. Both of these covers were pre-paid
6d and endorsed Air Mail. There must have been a rate change around late 1958 as the post office in Freetown
applied the purple boxed INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID / FOR AIR MAIL. handstamp and forwarded the
letters by surface mail, which was 6d for two ounces in this period.
