The correct air mail rate to the United Kingdom in October 1952 was 1s per half-ounce. The surface mail rate
at this date was 3d for the first ounce, plus 2d for each additional ounce.
The post office in Freetown applied the straight line INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID FOR AIR MAIL handstamp
and forwarded the letters by surface mail as evidenced by the London arrival backstamp of 13 November 1952.
