The Sumbuya office opened on 10 October 1907. It was a full post office, and
remained open through to 1961. There was a notice in the Gazette dated 1 May  Sumbuya
1908 stating that mails were exchanged weekly on Thursdays via Mano and
thence the railway to Freetown.

19 December 1908 - Sumbuya to Banbury, United Kingdom.

This cover was posted at Sumbuya on Saturday 19 December 1908. It had to wait until the following Thursday,
Christmas Eve, to be carried to Freetown via the railway from Mano. There is a Banbury arrival backstamp of
7 January 1909.

The 1d adhesive correctly pays the half-ounce letter rate to the United Kingdom. This envelope is the earliest
recorded item from Sumbuya.
