Waterloo
Waterloo
Waterloo is located towards the eastern boundary of the Colony, some twenty
miles from Freetown along the railway. It was founded in 1819 by a group of
disbanded servicemen after the Napoleonic Wars had ended; the village of
Wellington was founded at the same time. The post office opened there on
1 October 1892 and has remained open until independence. Four different
handstamps were used at Waterloo, the first and third being rare.
