York York
York village is situated on the Atlantic coast of the Colony. The office was
opened on 3 April 1893 and continued through to independence. Six different
handstamps were sent to the office and, despite the agency’s longevity, they are
all scarce: one is unrecorded and two are only known from a single example each.
Type 163.02
16 January 1904 - York to Bacup, United Kingdom. Very scarce on-cover example of the first York datestamp.
Note the lack of year plugs in the handstamp; this was the case from 1904 to 1906.
Unused postcard from a series first known used in 1920. Postcard Type LIS63560, published by Lisk-Carew Brothers, Freetown.
