Somerset or Somerset House Coffee Bouse
Strand
(1744-1862)
Its earliest mention was in 1744. It was frequented by gentlemen
employed at Somerset Place. From 1838 it was listed as Somerset Hotel.
Of the two covers shown; one is addressed to Somerset Coffee House and
the other to Somerset House Coffee House.
Letter posted on 5th March 1830 in Abingdon evidenced by an UDC in
Im : - - -............. ......-..black on reverse and delivered the next day. It was charged at 8d.
