St. Paul's Coffee House

(1796-1840)
It opened on the site of an earlier coffee house which closed in 1772; its
first mention was in 1796. It was also known as St. Paul's and Doctors~
Steps Coffee House.
Two letters addressed to the coffee house are displayed which co-
incidentally both come from Dublin.

Letter posted on 3rd December 1810 which arrived
in London on the 8th. Note the scarce Dublin
"Mermaid" cancellation. It was charged I/Id.
Letter posted on 27th May 1822 which arrived in London . ~ ·k·~
on the 30th. It was charged at 1/3d.
