Ibbotson's Coffee House & Hotel

(1801 - 1838)
It is listed throughout its short existence as under the proprietorship of
John Ibbotson from 1809. In 1815 it is mentioned by Gronow as
Ibbotson's Hotel "chiefly patronised by the clergy and young men from
the universities. The charges there were more economical than at similar
establishments."

A letter written by W. Brooks locally in May 180I with a red \
Westminster datestamp indicating it was posted in the evening which was
addressed to Sir Clement Cotterell Bart, Ibbotson's Hotel, Vere Street,
Oxford Road. The letter was charged 2d and was not pre-paid. The letter
requests the addressee to let Mr. Raine (3 Charlotte Street, Bloomsbury)
have the particulars of the "Fishing and Rivers" he is to value. A copy of
the letter is on the reverse. I
