How to send urgent documents for the signature to a passenger on a ship 14,732km far away. Luckily

there was a new Italian postal service "International Mail Quick Service" , which was much faster but

more expensive than the old Express Service. This cover, correctly franked with 68,000 lira of stamps

(more than 75 times the first class letter rate for abroad of 900 lira) was posted 31st January 1998 in

Padua, Italy, for Cairns, Queensland, to a passenger on board the Silver Wind cruise ship, but

unfortunately it did not arrive in time. Thanks to the efficiency of the Australian Postal Service, the

letter was not sent back to sender but forwarded and delivered to the addressee on 13th February,

when t he Silver Wind docked in Auckland, New Zealand.
