Do Not Process On
Automated Equipment
•
Automation isn't the answer to all problems I This 2001 postal card has the sender's address
label centred on the back and automated routing equipment read that Connecticut address, instead
of the Ohio address on the front. The originating post office caught the error and applied the "Do Not
Process On Automated Equipment" label over the incorrect bar code. This was to alert postal
employees on route to Ohio to process by hand and avoid a repeat of the error. Incredibly, though
this label must have been used in Hartford for some time, this is the only reported example to date.
