Siam had started her own postal services on August 4, 1883, but the service was for local mail in
Bangkok only. Before Siam joined the U.P .U. foreign postal services were carried out by the foreign
Consulates in Bangkok, such as the British, German and U.S.A. Consulates. After Siam joined the
U.P.U. on July 1, 1885, she started foreign postal services and all the foreign Consulate postal services
terminated. This cover is the earliest Siamese First Issue used on cover for foreign postal service,
paying for the single 12 atts postal rate.
