The Stadspost was set up in 1887 to undercut what were seen as high Post Office rates for the
delivery of local letters within the city of Stockholm. It was suppressed at the behest of the Post
Office on lst October 1889. The unsealed letter rate was 36 and the extra 16 made it up to the
sealed rate of 46. We will never know whether the sender initially franked the letter for the
unsealed rate and changed their mind or was simply using whatever stamps were to hand! Covers
bearing more than one stamp are unusual.
