                              basketball invented, zipper invented.





                             At the PSL: Vice President Tapling died unexpectedly so Castle takes over. Membership fees


                              increased to two guineas for Town Members and one guinea for Country Members.

                              Honorary President H.R.H. Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, K.G. (Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha).


                              PSL President was Judge F. A.  Philbrick. Membership stood at 113.

                              Cover  addressed  to Julio Popper in  Buenos  Aires  with  a single  1891 lOc dull  carmine-rose  on the

                              reverse, tied by COLONIA POPPER c.d.s. of 19 July 1891. It  was carried by the "Popper" post by ferry


                             to Punta Arenas in Chile where it was handled by a forwarding agent, Wehrhahn y Ca. who applied

                             the faint oval cachet. The agent added Sc and 20c Chilean stamps to the front of the cover and sent it

                              by registered mail to Buenos Aires where it received an  arrival c.d.s.  of 22 August 1891. Julio Popper


                              was known to be in Buenos Aires at this date and the letter probably contained mining reports.
