I.B Disinfection mail. "Ol>E33APAJKEHO" 1897 - 1906
Disinfection control stations set up at the three exchange post offices along the borders
Gaudan/ Ashkabad in the NE, Baku and Julfa in the NW
In June 1896, Russia passed a Law stating that mail from plague-infested locations such as Afghanistan,
India, etc. will be subjected to disinfection by steam and stamped Ol>E33APAJKEHO = disinfection. In 1897
the above three came into use. From Julfa and Baku only a few items recorded between 1897-190 1. The
one at Gaudan was in use during two periods. From May 1897 to 8th June 1901 and again during 1904/6.
A 300 km long Quarantine Cordon, 200 km south of the border in Khorasan was likewise installed in 1897
