Main feature
The use of the system [as existed in the UK as well] to telephone a
telegram message to Cape Town Post Office to enable the telegram to be
posted with the ordinary sea mails to another country. This achieved a
saving as the international cost of a telegram was saved but the system
was mostly used when using the mail from any place to Cape Town
would be 'too late'. This applied to internal letters and the system was
used when the addressee did not have a telephone.
The rate is the Imperial Penny rate [1d for each Y2 ounce from the 1st September 1899 to
the 31st December 1906 and then 1d for each ounce from the 1st January 1907].
