Main feature
The rate paid should have been the 2%d V2 oz rate to the United Kingdom
introduced on the 1st January 1891. This rate went down to the Imperial
rate of ld for% oz on the 1st September 1899.
The deficiency was 1 V2d [15c] and this was doubled to 3d when the letter
was dealt with in the Inland Branch in the GPO London.
The UPU rate was 2lhd for each Y2 ounce after Cape Colony joined the UPU on the 1st
January 1895 and then 2Y2d for the first ounce and 1lhd for each succeeding ounce
from the 1st January 1907.
