The Sixpence Stamp 1859 to 1895
c1889 Shade of Ninth Printing. Crown CA Watermark. Perf 12.
This exceptional stamp is in the colour of the ninth printing, but with a different watermark and perforation. Just
three copies are known, one of which is in the Royal Collection. Apart from items from this very small printing,
no sixpence stamps of this design were produced on either Crown CA Watermarked paper or perforated 12.

It is likely that a small trial printing was made at some stage around 1889, and that therefore this stamp is to
be regarded as a proof.
