Express Fee Paid 6d

29 July 1932 - Bo to Catterick, England

An express letter by air via the French Dakar to Toulouse service. The envelope has the UPU-standard single
blue crayon line to indicate express mail. This cover is the only one known from Sierra Leone with the boxed
EXPRESS FEE PAID 6D handstamp, so cannot be confidently attributed to Freetown.
The correct rate was 2d surface, 1s air mail surcharge and 6d express; hence this is underpaid by 2d.
An interesting annotation by the sender on the back: ‘An experiment to test the Air Mail - also one way of adding
to your stamp collection!!’.
