Express

22 October 1954 - Freetown to Kilmarnock, Scotland

The express facility was introduced from Sierra Leone in 1898 to countries that offered the service at the
delivery end. With the introduction of the French air mail service in 1926 the fee was set at 6d in addition
to all other charges.
This 4d registered stationery envelope has a 1s 3d stamp on the front to pay the air mail rate plus a 6d stamp
on the reverse covering the 6d express delivery charge, making a total rate of 2s 1d.
The Freetown post office has added a handstruck ‘EXPRESS’ mark on the envelope.
