At the outbreak of the Second World War, sending mail abroad was not as it used to be. This cover
from Vichy France to Egypt would normally t ravel only 1,700 miles through the Mediterranean Sea
but instead, it travelled a massive 13,500 miles all around Africa due to the hostilities in the area.
Proof of this is a South African censorship mark on the back of the cover.
