The first International Exhibition devoted to Thematic Philately was held in Saarbrucken in
1952. This cover shows the special stamp issued and has an advertising vignette. Also in
1952 the Saar sent their first and only separate Olympic team to the Helsinki Summer
Games. The pair of stamps issued for the event is also on the cover. The area was still under
French administration after WWII. German athletes could not be part of the French team,
nor were they allowed to join with the West German team, so they went on their own!
