The Coronation was the world's first major international event broadcast on television. It was held in
London on 2nd June 1953 with Heads of State from around the world, 25,800 service personnel and
three million spectators in the streets. It was good cause for partying across the world, including
London and New York City. Many countries issued commemorative stamps. The G.B. set here was
cancelled in Windsor on the day of issue, 3rd June 1953. The Society is honoured by the patronage of
Her Majesty and selections from the Royal Collection continue to be displayed at the first meeting of
every season at No. 41.
