the registration fee.
The postage to the United Kingdom at this time was 6d for each Yz ounce from the 151 July 1876 until
the 151 October 1888 when the rate went down to 4d for each Yz ounce.
Sent by RMS Nubian [Union Steamship Company]. The Times for Thursday September 13th 1877:
'The Royal mail Steamer Nubian, Captain William Bainbridge from the cape of Good Hope arrived at
Plymouth yesterday her dates being Cape Town August 21

\ Madeira September 6th. She had on board
78 passengers. She also brought 31 sacks of mails including those from Zanzibar and natal and a full
general cargo. The Nubian having landed at Plymouth 18 passengers and the mails proceeded for
Southampton. The mails were forwarded by train.'
