Instructional Marks
Handstruck 3d and Taxe ‘T’
23 March 1929 - Freetown to Bristol, England
A letter paid only ½d instead of 2d for a minimum rate to England. Correctly identified as underpaid in
Freetown and marked ‘T’ accordingly. The ‘3d’ handstamp marking double the 1½d shortfall is of uncertain
origin. Until another example is discovered, it remains unknown whether the postage due handstamp was
applied in Freetown or Liverpool.
This cover unusually has the adhesive cancelled in Freetown, but the envelope also received a Liverpool
paquebot handstamp.
